Tooth loss is a common problem in the United States. Approximately 178 million Americans are missing at least one tooth while 40 million are missing all of their teeth. Fortunately, losing a tooth no longer means that you need to go the rest of your life without it. Dental implants are a preferred tooth replacement option because of their numerous benefits, including allowing people to eat pretty much anything they want. But what if you had your surgery recently? Read on to learn which summer foods you can enjoy after dental implant placement surgery.

Which Summer Foods Can You Eat After Implant Surgery?

Before your implants are able to completely heal, you should be taking it easy when it comes to the foods that you’re eating. Here are a few delicious summer foods than you can enjoy until the healing process is complete:

  • Avocado
  • Baked Beans
  • Scrambled Eggs
  • Bananas
  • Smoothies
  • Noodles
  • Fish
  • Rice Dishes

Which Summer Foods Should You Be Avoiding?

When your implants are still in the process of healing, it’s a good idea to steer clear of the following foods:

  • Corn on the Cob: If you want to have a side of corn with your meal, cut it off the cob before you consume it. This way, you are less likely to disturb the healing process.
  • Hot Dogs: This delicious summer treat is loaded with processed saturated fat. This can lead to gum inflammation and periodontal disease. They can be enjoyed every once in a while, but it’s better to save this summer favorite for special occasions.
  • Sugary Drinks: Soda, fruit juices, and sweet tea are all quenching, but they are terrible for your natural teeth. They may not damage your replacement teeth, but they can still cause dental issues in your mouth.
  • Hard Foods: Chips, nuts, apples, and jerky can be hard on your implants when they are still fusing with the jawbone. They are best to avoid until the healing process is complete.

Once The Healing Process Is Complete, What Can You Eat?

You’ll pretty much be able to enjoy anything you’d like once your implants are completely fused with the jawbone. This include your favorite summer foods, like meat and other treats that are more difficult to chew. If you aren’t sure about a particular food, give your dental office a call. This way, you can get the best advice for your smile.

The great thing about dental implants is that you won’t need to worry about restricting your menu once they completely heal. You’ll be enjoying your favorite foods again in no time!
